How to Find Your Perfect Cannabis Dose (Without Overdoing It)

The most common mistake new cannabis users make? Taking too much, too fast.

The good news: with a tincture, finding your perfect dose is way more manageable than with edibles — where you eat a gummy, wait two hours, decide it's not working, eat another one, and then deeply regret your life choices.

The Golden Rule: Start Low, Go Slow

Cannabis affects everyone differently. Your weight, metabolism, experience level, and even what you ate that day can all influence how you feel. For most people, a good starting point is 5–10mg of THC. One full serving (1ml) of Drift Away contains approximately 10mg THC.

How to Titrate Your Dose

  1. Start with half to one full dropper on night one
  2. Wait at least 45 minutes before deciding whether to take more
  3. Note how you feel — too little? Too much? Just right?
  4. Adjust by half a dropper the next time, in either direction
  5. Repeat until you've found your groove

Most people find their ideal dose within a week of consistent use.

What If You Take Too Much?

First: you will be okay. No one has ever overdosed on cannabis. If you feel like you've had too much: find a comfortable spot, drink water, eat something, and remember that tincture effects typically last 2–4 hours. A surprisingly effective folk remedy: chewing a few black peppercorns can help take the edge off (it's a terpene thing).

A Note on CBD Dosing

CBD dosing is less about psychoactive effects and more about what works for your body. Many people find 25mg+ more effective for sleep and anxiety, while 10–15mg works well for general daily wellness. Since CBD is non-psychoactive, there's less risk in experimenting — though we still recommend starting on the lower end.

The goal is to feel good. Not too much, not too little — just right.
